Head Coach Emmett Rutkowski


Emmett RutkowskiEmmett Rutkowski enters his sixth season at the helm of Stetson men’s soccer in 2025. Since taking over the program in 2020, Rutkowski has helped the Hatters develop into a consistent contender in the ASUN Conference. In 2024, he led Stetson to its first ASUN Regular Season Championship in seven years, while also coaching three of the league’s major individual award winners.

Fall 2024
Rutkowski led Stetson to the ASUN Regular Season Championship with a 3-0-4 record in league play, marking the program’s first title since 2017. 

  • Coached Charles Ahl to ASUN Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors
  • Developed Clarence Loriot into the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Region selection
  • Oversaw the breakout campaign of Nicolo Radaelli, who earned ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year
  • Six players earned All-ASUN honors under his leadership, including two named to the All-Freshman Team

Fall 2023
The Hatters posted a 7-7-4 overall record and went 5-2-2 at home, with several high-profile victories throughout the year.

  • Defeated NC State 2-0 and eventual ASUN Champion Lipscomb 3-1
  • Rolled to a 7-0 win over St. Thomas, the program’s largest margin of victory in a decade
  • Guided freshman Xavi Csato to ASUN Freshman of the Year and All-Freshman Team honors
  • Coached four players to All-ASUN First or Second Team honors

Fall 2022

Stetson finished 6-3-7, losing just three matches all season — the program’s fewest in a single campaign since 1989.

  • Went 4-1 against in-state opponents, including wins over South Florida, FGCU, UNF, and Jacksonville
  • Scored six goals in a win over FGCU, the most in a single game since 2014 and the most ever against the Eagles
  • Coached five players to Second Team All-ASUN and two to the All-Freshman Team
  • Guided Gio Rodriguez to ASUN All-Tournament honors and All-Region Second Team
  • Mentored freshman Andres Mata to All-Region Third Team honors in his debut season

Fall 2021

In his second season, Rutkowski led the Hatters to their first winning record since 2014, finishing 8-7-2.

  • Picked up wins over #18 Lipscomb and RV Central Arkansas
  • Achieved the program’s first five-game win streak since 2010
  • Reached the ASUN semifinals
  • Coached two players to ASUN First Team, two to Second Team, and five to the All-Freshman Team
  • Guided Nelson Pereira to ASUN Freshman of the Year and All-Region Second Team honors

Assistant Coach at Stetson (2018–2019)

Before becoming head coach, Rutkowski served two seasons as an assistant at Stetson. In 2018, the Hatters advanced to the ASUN Championship Final for the first time since 2009 and posted their highest RPI ranking in nearly a decade.

  • Helped guide the program to a Top 4 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region
  • Mentored Ian McCauley to ASUN Defender of the Year and All-Region honors
  • Coached multiple All-Conference and All-Freshman selections
  • Contributed to back-to-back United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards, including a 3.54 team GPA in 2019

Mercer University (2013, 2016–17)
Rutkowski was part of a highly successful run at Mercer University, serving as assistant coach during two NCAA Tournament seasons.

  • Assistant coach for SoCon Tournament Championship teams in 2016 and 2017
  • Helped Mercer earn back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances
  • Coached Will Bagrou, a 2018 MLS SuperDraft selection, All-American, and MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist
  • Mentored goalkeeper Jeremy Booth, two-time SoCon Tournament MVP and program record-holder in goals against average

Centenary College (2014–2015)
Rutkowski served as head coach at Centenary College in Louisiana, helping to rebuild the program.

  • Served as head coach for two seasons
  • Doubled the team’s win total in his first year
  • Improved team GPA from 2.45 to 3.0; 13 players named to the SCAC All-Academic Honor Roll
  • Mentored Michael Pullano, recipient of the SCAC Character and Community Award

Dartmouth College (2012)
Rutkowski worked with the Big Green as goalkeeper coach, helping the Ivy League program to a second-place finish.

  • Goalkeeper coach for Ivy League runner-up squad
  • Coached one All-Region honoree and five All-Ivy selections
  • Team earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award

Frostburg State (2010–2011)
Rutkowski began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Frostburg State.

  • Graduate assistant coach for two seasons
  • Helped the team improve from 4-10-3 to 11-3-5
  • Reached the CAC semifinals and ECAC postseason
  • Coached Ryan Russell to Conference Player of the Year honors
  • Contributed to head coach Keith Byrnes earning CAC Coach of the Year
